About Carolyn Jarvis
California ocean and vineyard scenes are often sources of inspiration for Carolyn Jarvis' paintings. She is captivated by the process and challenge of creating colorful, spontaneous paintings that attempt to capture the light. She has been using a palette knife instead of brushes in recent oil paintings because she likes the freshness, texture and color vibrancy. Her favorite medium in recent years has been oil paint.
Her paintings have been exhibited in Balletto, St. Francis and Chateau Diana wineries Sonoma County, California. She has also shown her paintings in the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Graton Gallery in Graton, Hopscotch Gifts & Gallery in Healdsburg and Valley Art Gallery in Walnut Creek, California. Currently her paintings are shown at Artisans’ Co-op Gallery in Bodega and Hand Goods in Occidental, California.
Carolyn has won many awards for her paintings in shows sponsored by the Alamo-Danville Artists’ Society, Valley Art Gallery, Sonoma County Harvest Fairs and Sonoma County Fairs in California.
For three years, she studied color, composition and painting techniques with the talented artist, Van Waldron, who had been a student of the famous Russian master oil painter, Sergei Bongart.
A digital image of her "Dry Creek" vineyard oil painting was used in a 2018 continuing medical education flier by the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). The flier, describing a seminar for doctors held in Santa Rosa, California in wine country, was mailed to 10,000 people.
